COMMON GRIDDLE ACCESSORIES USED MOST
- Blackstone griddle – Ok, this is quite obvious. However, it doesn’t have to have the name Blackstone on it. Ours at home is from Sams Club.
- Griddle Breakfast Kit – I picked this up at Lowes. Has everything you need for making breakfast. It includes Batter Dispenser, Bacon Press, and Two Egg Rings. The bacon press does double duty as you can use it for hamburgers too.
- Squeeze bottles – You might not think you need to purchase a good set of squirt bottles. Until you get a shirt full of oil. I wish I had a video of when I went to squeeze the oil onto the griddle and the top popped off and ended up all over my shirt.
- Heavy duty spatula – This works for pancakes, french toast, burgers, steaks, and more.
- Aluminum Foil Drip Pans – These are a no-brainer. You need these for the back or you will have grease and oil all over. And no, you can’t save them to reuse. Bugs will get into it.
More Griddle Supplies You Need
- Mesh Screen block – I didn’t think I needed this until half my food was ending up in the drip pan.
- Wind guards – When I was seasoning my griddle, it wasn’t working out. Someone suggested wind guards. While I needed to get it done, I made some temporarily out of foil. I then ordered these and they work great. Be sure to order the right size for your Blackstone griddle.
- Tongs – A good set of tongs are always handy for multiple reasons. In addition to flipping food, I use mine to hold the paper towels when the griddle is hot while spreading oil
- Infrared Temperature Gun – This is great to have even for cooking indoors.
- Cheese melting dome – You might not think you need one of these..but trust me. At some point you will be saying, I wish I would have bought a cheese-melting dome.
- Blackstone Griddle Seasoning – This is a must especially when seasoning the Blackstone griddle. I have tried lard and everything else on my previous griddle and nothing works as well as this.
How to Make a Bacon-Wrapped Grilled Cheese on the Blackstone
Prepping the Sandwich
We start with thick-cut bread giving it a sturdy base to hold all of the ingredients. If using whole wheat bread, slice whole wheat bread to ½ inch thick per slice.
Next, we add a generous amount of cheddar and mozzarella cheese, which is melted to a gooey consistency that’s perfect for biting into.
But the real star of the show is the honey-cured bacon strips that are wrapped around the outside.
Each piece is cooked to a crispy, golden-brown perfection, adding a delicious crunch to the already mouth-watering sandwich.
Opt to rub garlic all over the bread.
Lay three slices of slightly overlapping bacon to cover the entire width of the bread. The length of the bacon slices covers the bread vertically.
Lay two slices of bacon on top of the first layer of bacon, forming a cross.
Top with one slice of bread then fill the entire bread surface with cheddar and mozzarella cheese and cover with another slice of bread.
Wrap sides of bread with the topmost layer of bacon.
Cover the remaining bread with the outermost layer of bacon.
Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
Getting the Blackstone Griddle Ready
Heat griddle to medium-high then melt with butter and lay bacon-wrapped sandwich, crease side down. Fry until bacon is golden in color.
Slowly turn the bacon-wrapped sandwich using two wide tongs and fry the other side of the bread.
Once both sides are fully cooked, fry the remaining sides of the bacon. Do this to the remaining bacon-wrapped sandwiches.
After bacon wrapped grilled cheese sandwich has been fully cooked, allow for 20 to 30 seconds to cool down a bit before cutting through the melted cheese.
Enjoy!
Notes:
Opt to rub garlic on bread before wrapping it with bacon.
Variations
- Swap out the cheeses for your favorites.
- Using maple-flavored bacon instead of honey cured would give it added flavor.
- You can also use Texas toast, Brioche bread, or thick sliced white bread.
