This classic sandwich is a beloved favorite that originated in America in the early 20th century and has since become a favorite all over the world.
However, have you ever tried making a Reuben sandwich on a Blackstone griddle?
More than likely, you’ve had a sandwich made on a flat-top grill if you’ve ever ordered one in a restaurant.
The Blackstone griddle is a popular choice for cooking up a Reuben sandwich for multiple reasons.

The griddle’s versatile cooking surface allows for even heat distribution, which ensures that the sandwich’s bread, meat, cheese, and sauerkraut are cooked to perfection.

COMMON GRIDDLE ACCESSORIES USED MOST
- Blackstone griddle – Ok, this is quite obvious. However, it doesn’t have to have the name Blackstone on it. Ours at home is from Sams Club.
- Griddle Breakfast Kit – I picked this up at Lowes. Has everything you need for making breakfast. It includes Batter Dispenser, Bacon Press, and Two Egg Rings. The bacon press does double duty as you can use it for hamburgers too.
- Squeeze bottles – You might not think you need to purchase a good set of squirt bottles. Until you get a shirt full of oil. I wish I had a video of when I went to squeeze the oil onto the griddle and the top popped off and ended up all over my shirt.
- Heavy duty spatula – This works for pancakes, french toast, burgers, steaks, and more.
- Aluminum Foil Drip Pans – These are a no-brainer. You need these for the back or you will have grease and oil all over. And no, you can’t save them to reuse. Bugs will get into it.
More Griddle Supplies You Need
- Mesh Screen block – I didn’t think I needed this until half my food was ending up in the drip pan.
- Wind guards – When I was seasoning my griddle, it wasn’t working out. Someone suggested wind guards. While I needed to get it done, I made some temporarily out of foil. I then ordered these and they work great. Be sure to order the right size for your Blackstone griddle.
- Tongs – A good set of tongs are always handy for multiple reasons. In addition to flipping food, I use mine to hold the paper towels when the griddle is hot while spreading oil
- Infrared Temperature Gun – This is great to have even for cooking indoors.
- Cheese melting dome – You might not think you need one of these..but trust me. At some point you will be saying, I wish I would have bought a cheese-melting dome.
- Blackstone Griddle Seasoning – This is a must especially when seasoning the Blackstone griddle. I have tried lard and everything else on my previous griddle and nothing works as well as this.
How to Make a Blackstone Grilled Reuben Sandwich
To make a Reuben sandwich on a Blackstone griddle, start by evenly heating the griddle to around medium-high temperature.
Add some butter to the griddle to add a bit of flavor.
Place slices of marble rye bread on the hot griddle and allow them to get toasty.
Pour your 1000 Island Dressing onto two slices of the bread and spread it around. If you like a lot of dressing, you can put it on both sides of the sandwich bread.
Next, add a few slices of corned beef, pastrami, or turkey to the griddle, and cook them until they’re heated through.
Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each slice of bread.
Once the meat is cooked, remove it from the griddle and place it on a slice of toasted rye bread.
Layer the sauerkraut on top of the meat.
Finally, press the sandwich together gently with a spatula and let it cook on the Blackstone griddle for a few minutes, flipping it over to cook both sides until the cheese is melted, and the bread is crispy.
You can cover it with a cheese melting dome to help melt the cheese quicker.
Remove from Blackstone griddle and serve with a side of french fries.
Sandwich Variations
When it comes to the ingredients that make up a Reuben sandwich, the options are endless.
Typically, a Reuben sandwich is made with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing, all sandwiched between rye bread.
However, some people like to swap out the corned beef for pastrami or turkey, and others add in extras like avocado or jalapenos for a bit of added flavor.
